I'm back!
It’s been over 2 years since my last post. Oops. Let’s see if I can get you caught up.
January 2018 I left my job at Manresa Restaurant - it was tough, but it was time.
Ricardo (my partner) and I decided to start our own podcast called Copper & Heat. The goal: to make a podcast by cooks, for cooks, addressing tough topics in the industry. But it wasn’t going to be just purely interview-style, it was going to be narrative, journalistic storytelling.
I took a couple months to do interviews and start producing the podcast. Turns out, that style of podcast is a whole lot of work.
April 2018, I started a new job as a butcher at Belcampo Meat Co. in Palo Alto. Worked part time to keep doing the podcast
June 2018 I ended up getting promoted to GM of the little butcher shop/restaurant in Palo Alto. Super awesome, learned a ton.
Through the rest of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, we produced our first season of Copper & Heat while I managed the Belcampo in Palo Alto. It was great, but it was hard working over 50 hours at the shop and also doing the podcast.
By March 2019, Belcampo decided to close my little shop to focus on bigger and better projects closer to San Francisco and in New York. I became a consultant, traveling and helping them open new locations.
In April 2019, Ricardo and I won a James Beard Award for the podcast. We’re still in shock. At that point, we decided it was time for me to go full time! So I did.
Copper & Heat was selected out of thousands of podcasts to be part of the Google Podcasts creator program with PRX as a runner up. We attended a podcast bootcamp training program with some of the best in the biz.
We finished out 2019 with the beginning of our second season.
Now it’s 2020 and I can’t believe all that’s happened over the last couple years. Over the next couple days I’ll be posting some stuff to get ya’ll caught up on what I (and Ricardo) have been up to.
Thanks for sticking with me!
